The Orphaned Starfish Foundation was founded in 2001 on the belief that education is the key to escaping the poverty trap.

The Orphaned Starfish Foundation partners with orphanages and homes for impoverished children throughout Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa. The orphanages provide a refuge and safe haven for the children, and The Orphaned Starfish Foundation funds the construction and operation of vocational training facilities. This can include furnishings, required equipment, trainer salaries, and job placement services. All of our programs specifically focus on providing the children with technology training so that they will be able to provide for themselves and grow into successful adults.

How We Help

Each project includes the construction of a computer training facility where the children learn skills necessary to obtain employment after they leave the orphanages; the computer training facilities are designed to address the specific needs of each orphanage and to maximize impact. We partner with in-country programs and partners to identify and select project sites with the greatest need.

The goals of the programs are to:

• Improve learning skills and stimulate interest in education;
• Provide access to the internet and other resources which will give them a broader vision of the world;
• Increase the children’s self-esteem and enhance their overall quality of life; and
• Help them take advantage of employment opportunities.

We currently support programs all over the world, specifically in the countries of Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, ColombiaCosta Rica, Dominican Republic, EcuadorEl Salvador, Ethiopia, EcuadorHaiti, HondurasMexico, NicaraguaPanama, Peru, and Puerto Rico.
